i have a 1999 California special. When i turn the key i hear a click but the bike wont turn over.I just put in a new starter ,checked fuses, recently replaced the relays .Im thinking it could be an igniton switch problem but then why the click i hear from near the engine.Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Does the fuel pump energize? It is located under the left side panel. Also a schematic is available in the downloads section. Unfortunately that era Guzzi has too much power routed through the ignition switch and they are prone to fail.

the click is the fuel shut off valve opening. see johns reply next. pull battery and go to auto zone for a load test. pull apart and clean every electrical connection including the ground from battery to engine.

Ok, battery is brand new.the fuel pump does energize ,thats new too. This all started when the shift linkage at transmission fell off the trans. Then i had to connect it to trans in the proper way.I get a neutral light. I will check connections, but i think it has something to do with that trans linkaae coming off.

Are you in neutral and have a neutral light? If no neutral light and clutch isn't squeezed in (presuming side stand switch is still active) the bike won't start.

What happens when you hit the Start button? Possible Kill Switch failure? If you are not getting 12 volts at started cylinoid when you depress Start, may want to look at Kill/Start switch. They can get awfully dirty inside.
