I have a Griso and the filter is outside of the pan. I am looking at a very nice 2001 v11 sport. Does this year and model still have the filter in the pan or out like my Griso?

The V11's are kind of an in between style. The filter is in the pan but there is an access port you can un-screw to change the filter after draining the oil. It takes a huge allen type tool to un-screw it. Some people still just drop the pan but I prefer the access port most of the time only dropping the pan every so-often to see how things are.

I have a Griso and a 4v Daytona. My wife has a '01 V11 with the red frame. In my opinion it is one of the best bikes Guzzi has ever made and I would have happily traded my Griso for one before I spent alot of money to get my Griso to run right (PCV/Autotune, etc). I do prefer the 4v Daytona to the V11 but the V11 is right there with it. The red frame V11's out handles the newer Guzzi's (and alot of other bikes) big time.

Thanks for the quick reply on the V11 oil filter question. There is a super clean 6,000 mile 2001 V11 sport for sale here for $5,000. Is that a fair price? It has a brand new battery and new Bridgestone 021's. I rode it just a bit and it feels good and sounds superb I think M4 pipes. Any thing I should be looking for or questioning. The seller is not a enthusiast and as you can see does not ride much.

My 2007 Griso has been my favorite bike and fortuantly I have not had really any big problems other than the clanky clutch at times and a poor dealer experience. Looks great and feels great. I have always liked the looks of the V11 sport but a few years ago rode one but the vibes were too much coming off a Triumph Triple. Now that I have had a Guzzi for over a year, it is like home.

I would pay $5K for a 2001 V11 in good shape. I think that is a fair price. Not a screamin deal but on the cheaper side.
There is a '04 (Ithink) Coppa Italia on ebay going for over $10K. That bike is a limited edition (I always thought "limited edition" Guzzi is funny) with Ohlins suspension, but it makes $5K sound better.
I like my Griso, but the V11 is a much sharper tool then the Griso. My wifes V11 feels much tighter and more precise then my Griso. It is a sport bike without body work. The Griso is not. There was a trans recall for some of the early V11's, you can check to see if it was in the range and if it had the work. I don't think there is any other issues that are major. There are details like the stock rear tire size ( a 170 ) was too big for the 4.5" rim and a 160 works much better. All in all the 2001 V11 is my favorite. Especially the green ones.
