I'd rather not discuss how my engine oil on my 2004 V11 Lemans got too low. Im just going to call that a hard lesson learned on a newly purchased bike. Lets talk about the damage that happened after
To my best guess is that the oil stopped pumping to the heads for a short time due to a low sump level. On my way to work I noticed my valves were tapping more loudly than normal and by the time I pulled in at work, it was a very sharp/dry tapping sound. I kicked the bike into 2nd gear instead of 1st to idle the engine slower and quieter until I could get it parked and shut off. This is when the engine died, and I found out later that the intake push rod had disconnected and was lodged under the arm of the rocker.
I rolled the push rod on a flat surface to see it it was bent. I cant see a wobble, but I hear it tapping as it rolls. Id say its bent.
With that said, I've changed the oil and reset all the valve gaps to the world specs that I use. After I run it for a couple minutes the valve clearance is changing more than .05mm. My guess is that this is coming from the bent push rod. Does that sound right? Ive heard people say that if the oil stops flowing to the head for any amount of time, its a new cam, lifter and possibly more.
How would you start diagnosing this damage?
And my next thought is. If i need a new cam, what's the first step upgrade for this V11 engine? So far, the exhaust has been upgraded. Does anyone know where to get hotter cams, and i assume that they do exist. I can recall reading about someone having tuning issues with their Stage 2 upgrades.
Dual spark plugs, a slightly hotter cam and exhaust. Could that all be considered Stage 1 category ? I ask because I dont want to go above that in performance mods. I hear they start acting up, the more you hop them up. Sounds logical.
Im looking at having to replace my cam from some damage my 2004 V11 lemans got from an oil problem. Fixed the oil problem.
Does anyone know of the next hottest cam I can upgrade to for more power and performance? Ive heard of Stage 1,2,3 upgrades as far as performance on any engine. Stage 1 being moderate and Stage 3 being in the "racing" category. Ive also heard that especially with the V11 Lemans, the farther away from stock you get with performance upgrades. The farther away you get from having a bike that runs trouble free and without hick-up. So, with that said, my goal is stage 1. Cam upgrade, perhaps dual spark plugs, any other ignition tricks I can find, computer enhancement, already added performance mufflers.
Now I need details for parts. Id like to find someone here that has done upgrades already or can guide me in the right direction.

Oh dear what a drama.
I think you should start by getting one cylinder to TDC and pulling the rocker pins and check for wear.
Then the obv would be to check the cam followers after taking one cylinder off.. That would show if there is cam damage
Thinking the cam would show oil overheating problemsbefore other components.
Good luck

Low oil pressure does the most damage to the bottom end (crank and rod bearings), but will also damage the top end components as well. Best bet, is to speak with Mike Rich about options for replacement/upgrades; http://www.mikerichmotorsports.com - he's not cheap, but he's very good. Worth the investment of time & money.

Hope that helps, and best of luck with the rebuild.
