Hello All
About my 2014 Cali 1400 custom. I seems to me that I am getting somewhat more vibration through
the handle bars and foot boards than when the bike was newer.
Anyone else experience this ?
Specifically I am wondering ,as the bike is now about 8 years old, if the rubber engine mount bushings may harden over time . This resulting in increased engine vibration , compared to when the bike was new.
Anyone change/replace these rubber bushings ? If so ...is it a particularly difficult task ? any special tools / pullers required.
I Usually do all the work myself, so i'm not intimidated by the thought of doing it .... just looking to see if anyone has experience and tips for the procedure.
Thanks a ton
Rob

Does it idle well? I presume you have ruled out plugs, leads and fuel issues - those would be the easy fixes and can lead to vibration. I have not heard of anyone on this forum reporting rubber engine mounts that needed changing, but it's at least a day's work and you would have to be pretty handy with a wrench.

Hi Paul , thanks and Yes I am pretty handy with the wrenches.
Yes The engine runs beautifully. No change there ...Great idle etc. Runs like New only better because I have the power commander fueling kit installed. Valve clearance is set corrrectly..etc.

Rob, the motor mounts are quite durable, and I don’t know of anyone that needed them yet. Always a first though.

I have the same fuel kit on my Audace. Make sure the two two throttle cables are not obstructed/sticking and the throttle demand sensor under the tank is not loose in any way. Check there is some slack between the two throttle cables. Also have you tried a tried a throttle reset (of the ECU via todds hand held programmer and also the PCV - once warmed up, via a laptop/usb link to the PCV).

Just checking that you haven't inadvertently bolted on some accessory or such to the engine or mounts that effectively bypasses the rubber mounting? You should be able to see the engine shake on the rubber mounts when it is idling.

If needed , the top motor mount is not only a lot of work , but the top bolt through the rubber mount
can be seized into the alloy center ( mine was when I changed the alternator last year on my 2018 Eldo).
And it'll be a long days work , trust me on this one . Not on the Guzzi's , but the later HD Dyna rubber mounts
would sometimes split one of their rubber vanes and lead to more vibration . But try everything else before
committing to this work. Peter
ps; I'm in Burnaby.

Thanks for all the responses and great ideas guys. Throttle reset done when fueling kit installed. Engine does run beautifully. Great idle. No noticeable difference there.
Same visible shaking at idle it has always had. No notice of the slight/ moderate increase in vib’s until well underway. Then just notice it in the footboards and handgrips. Think ill check the front silent block and center bolt. Also ill have a look at the throttle cables and demand senor.
I appreciate the input. Seven years with the bike and the only issue ever was a failed clutch switch…. And Kiwi Dave had the answer for that one.
Its been a very good motorcycle.
