Last weeks ride the fuel level indicated low fuel when the tank was full. It corrected itself. It was reading properly all week untill this morning when it again started to indicate low fuel. I filled up and found i still had half a tank. It remained with low fuel indicator on and millage count down from time of indication.
How does the fuel level sender work?? And what is the fix?? Thanks H

I haven't taken mine apart , so take this with a grain of salt , most fuel level senders are
simply floats in the tank and they pivot about a variable resistance , this gives the signal
to the gauge . If there's any corrosion around that pivot it can become intermittent . And
there's also the connections on the outside of the tank that can be slightly corroded . Peter

I think i understand the function of the thermister in the wiring circuit but i think that has nothing to do with the fuel level float switch. I inserted a probe into the fuel tank and moved the float which resolved the problem with the 6 bars of indicated fuel level. This may only be a temporary fix as i will need to remove the float switch to see what the problem is. Repair or replace.
