Hi guys, I am doing research on the Griso and have some questions. I am considering buying a new 2015 Griso. I have never owned a Guzzi so my baseline experience with this bike is starting at zero. First I am a long time rider (over 40 years and 30 + bikes). Second I am never satisfied with any bikes performance as delivered and almost always look for performance and suspension upgrades very soon after purchasing. Since I have no experience with Guzzi or the aftermarket support for Guzzi performance parts & services this site seems like a good place to start. That being understood I have some questions about the 8V Griso I hope some of you can help me with.

1. How well does this engine & driveline respond to basic performance mods (exhaust, ECU re-flash & or PC 5 with autotune, air box & filter mods) ? What RWHP & TQ gain can be expected from these basic mods assuming they are all compatible and sourced from a top notch source ?
2. Does this engine respond well to mild internal mods (street porting the heads, mild cams)? If the answer is yes how much does it help & who offers these parts & services ? I am not looking for radical race parts.
3. How strong is the stock bottom end (crank, bearings, rods, pistons, cases) and will they reliably support a decent increase in RWHP & TQ ?
3. Is the stock clutch strong enough to reliably support a decent increase in HP/TQ ?

Hi John, welcome to the Forum and advance congrats on the Griso, per above:
1. Incredibly well. Typical gains average 15%+ on both. This is with intake, exhaust and fuel mods. I have worked hard and long on them investing way too much money in the process. I'll try to get some Dyno info online again on the new bikes. Be sure to see this thread; https://www.guzzitech.com/forums/threads/guzzitech-power-commander-v-information.2686/
2. Porting is your best investment. Mike Rich Motorsports in NY is your guy to talk to. Tell him I sent you. There is little out there for cams and related, but I do have a line on some from a very limited production Italian-made run. Contact me direct for info.
3. The project now owned by RP called the big bore (1425cc w/water-cooled heads) put out well over 165rwhp via stock clutch and driveline on the high banks at Daytona. I stock their lightweight racing clutch plate used by them.
I'm halfway through building a supercharged 8V, and I'm not even remotely concerned about failures.
I'd say not much to worry about anything you're thinking of doing.

Hope that helps.

Todd, thanks for the answer. I am not new to this and learned long ago that the most important thing when starting street performance enhancements is finding a tuner/vendor who works out compatible performance enhancements and is not just selling parts. For street performance enhancements peak HP numbers on a dyno are not nearly as important as a high reasonably flat TQ curve.

I have not purchased a Griso yet . Guzzi dealers are pretty thin in my area and the nearest dealer (C&D Motorsports, Robinson IL) is 170 miles from me. They don't have a Griso currently and won't have one until sometime in December when I will visit their shop.

If I buy this bike the first mods after break in will be the easy stuff (exhaust, ECU re-flash, PC5/autotune, recommended air box mod if any). I do have a question about the single vs dual sensor autotune on the Guzzi. I definitely saw the necessity of the dual input autotune when tuning my HD Superglide. The rear cylinder on the HD's run considerably hotter than the front cylinder. On the Guzzi both cylinders & heads should run roughly the same temperature??? The difference in cost is minimal but I am curious what the actual tuning advantage is on the Guzzi ?? I finished performance mods on a Honda VFR 1200F this summer and I used a single input autotune after logging the A/F separately on the front & rear cylinders. The same DJ map was used for all four cylinders and the two pairs of cylinders tracked almost perfect A/F's. After testing I decided to use a single channel autotune with the broadband sensor just aft of the 4/2/1 collector.

Hi John- I am the owner of a stock 2013 Griso, and I just finished renting and riding one of Todd's dual-sensor autotune equipped Griso. I have to say the difference between stock and the attuned version is remarkable! It rides with V-twin torque and character, but pulls in a linear fashion like a Japanese inline-4... no flat spots or stumbling anywhere in the curve. I was stunned for the first mile as I pulled out of Todd's garage, and for the next 200-300 miles I was simply filled with joy at riding such a well set-up bike.

I can't tell you the difference between a single sensor setup and dual, but I can tell you the difference between stock and dual is stark and obvious- it's far superior in terms of both usable power through the rev range as well as top end.
