I have a strange ( for me) problem with my Breva 750 2005. It starts up fine, lets me go for a ride, stops and restarts without a hiccup, but then, when I set off it dies on me completely. It has done this now 3 times on the trot and it blows the 30A fuse to the regulator/rectifier. Is the problem with the battery or the regulator? I don't understand how it can let me do one trip without a problem, but blow on the start of the second. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It could be neither. Possibly a chaffed wire that occasionally grounds blowing the fuse. Disconnect the fuse and the regulator. Hook up an ohm meter to the wire and ground. Wiggle the harness, if you get continuity, that is your issue. It may be necessary to run a new wire from the fuse to the regulator connector. If you can't get continuity, it may be a component in the regulator is causing the problem. Usually regulators completely fail or they are fine. Please let us know what you find.

Many thanks for the help. I have fully charged up the battery and tried to jiggle as many wires and connectors that I can find and today it has not given me any problems, so I feel as if it is either the battery or as you say, a chaffed wire somewhere that I have moved back to a "safe" position. I'll keep testing over the next few days and will report any problems if any. Thanks again.

You might also want to check the charging voltage at the battery with the engine running. Take it up to about 3,000 RPM. With the headlight on is should be 13.5 volts or higher, If over 14 volts it is over charging.

Sorry for the delay in updating, I decided to do the easy thing first and put a new battery in. I then took the plunge and went for a week's holiday up and down the Adriatic coast to test it out. It did not miss a beat! I don't know for sure that it was the battery, but to be honest I don't really care. I had a great week and have renewed confidence in the beast. Many thanks for all your help, I went from "desperate" to "delighted!"
