So you have the big convert final drive and can't use 5th cause it's now too high?

Here's one possible solution:

5th should now be about 5 MPH higher than 4th instead of >12 MPH.

But... as Jack sez "Gears don't make horsepower."

Hi Alex,
What are we looking at , a custom made gear thats been welded to the core of an old Guzzi gear? Did Jack cut the gears ? Nice looking work ! I`m kinda curious about your gearing with the convert, was lugging 4th at Bonneville at 150 mph at around 7200 rpm and then did a backup in 3rd at 150 and change at 8500 rpm then backed off the throttle and held it there, that was with 973 cc, a convert rear end, lemans IV trans and no bodywork. have no idea how your V7 is able to pull 3rd , let alone 4th and 5th with a convert drive?? I need a 5th gear combo that will pull 200 and keep the R`s down to 8500... You`ve given me a fresh idea ! Bill

... thought you was talking 'bout 5th gear in this manner...

Just got back from "Big Vacation."

Mr. Gears cut off the original teeth from a 5th set from a 5 speed. Put on rings and cut a new tooth combo. In this case the total number of teeth in the set needed to remain constant because the shaft centers could not change... gear talk I think. Anyhow, once the final product was complete, the gears were heat treated. They now await installation in a spare tranny.

Should be interesting...

Alex
