Replaced stock ignition with Dyna lll electric due intermittent running on 1 cylinders . A couple of rides on new ignition reverted to one cylinder running . Local shop said on of new coils was bad and replaced it . A couple of rides on new coil its back to running on one cylinder. what is trouble shoot?

Well, there isn't much left in the ignition circuit - you've got the pickups, then the Ignitors, then the coils and finally the spark plugs so I would suspect that there is an issue with the left ignitor. See attached pic from my V50II. To test that, swap the two ignitors and see if the problem swaps along with it.

MG Ignition

V50III used standard points and coils. Doesn't have electronic ignition like the V50II. Switch the coils and see if the fault follows.

I misread his original post, sorry. Ok, he removed the stock ignition and replaced it with a Dyna 3 electronic but had the same issue. So
Pakirk61, we need to hear back from you.

1. Do you know what the problem was with the original ignition system that caused you to replace it with the Dyna 3? Meaning was it the coil that was going bad? If so, what was wrong with it? See pic

2. After you replaced the system with the Dyna 3, is it the same cylinder (coil) that is not firing as it was with the original ignition system? i.e.: is the issue consistent with the left or right coil?

3. Have you checked all the wiring going from the pickups all the way to the plugs? Missing wire insulation, cracks, intermittent connectors, wire shorting to frame ground, etc.

4. When you look at how you have the coils mounted, do you see where it may be possible that the mounting hardware, which will be frame ground, might be too close to either the 12v source or the high voltage output and therefore possibly causing a short?

Too bad, I always like to hear how things end up. Well, he joined at the end of May, probably when he needed a solution, may have figured it out and then just abandoned. However, if he does come back, I would love to know what the root cause was.
