Hi riders,

I would like to replace stock exhausts of my V7 Stone 2013. I live in NZ an here we are quite limited with exhaust options. Our dealers here offer Zard only and one of them started offering some no name for half price of the Zard. When I asked for ECU programming/re-flash, the dealer told me it should be fine without it. Their demo bike V7 II, I had a chance to ride with the after market exhaust, was running fine to me, but I am little bit sceptical about it. I would like to know your opinion. Is it ok to put any type of exhaust on V7 without ECU change? Does the exhaust has to be designed for V7 with or without ECU re-flash anyway?

Cheers

David

Some bikes will adapt and handle an aftermarket exhaust. It all depends on how much more air is being pumped through the engine due to the loss of the restriction in the muffler. Some people say the V7 can handle it. I'm in a different school that believes the stock fueling is horrible and had mine re-flashed with the stock system. It's much, much better. You'll probably see both sides of the issue in subsequent posts.

BTW, can't you get Staintune in NZ? They're made in Australia.

Thank you for your advise. Yes, I agree, stock fuelling is horrible and MG should never release bike like this. I bet it discouraged many people to buy MG due to this. I also read by replacing stock exhausts it improves some of these flaws. I cannot afford to do ECU re-flash and exhaust change at the same time, so I am looking for best option now, and I don't want to damage my bike either.

The Staintune is looking nice, but ($1400 AUD). It would be more expensive than Zard option.

Do a few searches here in this section, and you'll see that the stock system is NOT adaptive at all, and in stock trim the bike is fueled critically lean. I would recommend waiting until you can do both at once. If you have any specific questions, feel free to write me direct email; Todd at GuzziTech.com
