While I don't think there will be any price advantage as the Guzzi belt is dirt cheap for you folks in the USA if you are unlucky enough to have your belt snap while you're out on the road and there isn't a dealer local I've found that a Gates 4PK740 will fit the bill perfectly. I believe the Guzzi belt is a 750 but there's enough extra movement in the alternator to allow fitment of the 740. - Pete

They did make the 850 Norge, there was a press release some time back to the effect that the Berlin police had oredered some.
We assumed that the 850 was only produced to comply with some tax or insurance setup in some parts of Europe. Never imported to the UK.

The Bellagio motor was conceived later, and I think based on a review/redesign of the 850cc engine.

I think the 850cc Norge was just a bit too underpowered and as it was only available in the base configuration, *without* ABS and for a price not that much lower than the regular model, it just wasn't interesting for most. I considered one because insurance costs for a new rider would have been astronomically lower, but the lack of ABS killed the deal for me.

Yup, for the same weight the 850 is lacking Ooomph.

They used to say you could tell a happy motorcyclist by the bugs in his teeth...I wear a full face so this no longer applies but I cannot help but smile each time I mount my Bella! :D

American Guzista should apply some pressure to the Guzzi importers and get the Bellagio approved for importation....you have no idea what a gem you are missing. :S

Pete, would the 750 be a better choice, fitment wise.
 
Won't really make a blind bit of difference. Multi-V belts tend to either work or break. They rarely need adjustment during their service life. I've changed a couple of them now at about 30,000Kms and they looked perfect. My bike is up to 50,000 now and I haven't even bothered checking it yet. If it busts I'll know how long they last but if I'm planning a long trip I'll probably change it soon.

Changed mine out yesterday at 32k miles. The OE guzzi belt still looked good, but the groove side had visible macro cracks. Job was not difficult but lots of work -took the tank off for better access and visibility. The Gates 4PK740 (K040292 is marked on the same package as well) was a perfect match to the MG belt (LxW) as far as I can tell. The package notes the belt as 14mmx755mm. Don't know why there is a factory tool for this job - had no problem without it. Found that I had to remove the right (left facing it) pinch bolt with the spacer on which the adjustment bolt contacts to allow enough slack for the belt to come off.
 
I just ordered a 4PK750 fro REPCO in Oz. Their computer said that 4PK740 was not a valid code, go figure. I will pick it up on Friday. Will let you know price then.

I regret to say that the 4PK750 is not the right belt. Perhaps the 4PK740 will be,
The 4PK750 is too long and cannot be adjusted. Grrrr.......

Well I changed the alternator belt today with a Gates 4PK740 and found that the adjustment is almost at its end. Perhaps a slightly shorter belt?
The way the designations work is: 4P = 4 ribs. K is belt type 740 is the length in millimetres.
The Gates 4PK740 is equivalent to a 5040292, i.e. 5 = belt type: 04 = number of Vs: 0292 = 29.2 inches.
Both DAYCO & GOODYEAR have belts designated 5040290 & 4040290 respectively. I believe that these belts would be a little closer to the Guzzi belt.
DAYCO & GOODYEAR have a pitch length of 29" (736.6mm).
The 4PK740 belt should have a pitch length of 29.13" (740mm). I guess that Gates went to the next whole number for their equivalent.
So that is a difference of 3.4mm.
