Perhaps other folks with no air box on their 2010 V7 Café Classic will find the following helpful.
My new-to-me 2010 V7 Café Classic came sans air box. Notably the air box is not only home for the air filter, but for the air/oil separator. It is my understanding that on a stock V7 the oil is separated in the air box and then a hose is routed down and through a check valve and back to the oil sump.
But I have no air box. So as a temporary solution, I teed two 5/16” vent hoses coming from each valve cover and routed a single hose back to the rear of the bike with about a one-inch stub sticking out past the end of the swing arm. This is similar to the setup on my old 70s Triumphs except that on these bikes the vent hose extended down to the end of the rear fender.
Well I was not comfortable having my vent hose terminate that close to the rear brake disc and tire, so I sought another solution. With no air box in the way there was ample space between the cylinders to mount an air/oil separator that I found on eBay. This particular unit has four ports: one port on the bottom for routing the oil back to the sump; two ports for plumbing to the valve covers; and one fresh air breather port. Attached is a pic of the unit I installed. The blurry red object is the fresh air breather.
I thought it was a fairly elegant solution to my air/oil separator problem and hope folks with a similar problem will find it useful.
