Owners of Guzzi Breva, Norge, and Griso need to keep a check on the alternator belt. Mine broke on my 06 Breva while at Daytona last week. While riding to the track i noticed the voltmeter going down as I rode. I started heading for the dealer in Ormond Beach, and the bike started missing. I pulled off of I-95 and into a 7-11 and the bike quit. I suspected the belt was loose or broken, because I had a new battery. I was able to pull the front cover off with the tools in the tool kit and found the belt had separated and split in two. The dealer didn't have one in stock, so I had to F-150 the bike back to Camp Carlo. Thank goodness I wasn't camping at the BMW campground this year. Anyone have any idea how to adjust the alternator to tighten or loosen the belt? I ordered and received the new belt from Guzzi. Oh, the bike has 11k on it.

Instruction are here: https://www.guzzitech.com/MGGriso/Manual ... iceMan.pdf

It requires a special tool according to the instructions. Also they state to use the appropriate torque for a new, or re-installed belt, but the values aren't listed anywhere. Do any of you dealers on this board have those values?

So far every ones best guess is to tighten until you cant twist the belt only about 90 degrees in the middle. I'm not sure how accurate this is, but you don't want to get the belt too tight. That would result in a failure that you described, or pre-mature wear on the alternator bearings.

You don't mention what mileage the Breva had done.

As John says, all the multi V belts seem to work to the twist by 90 degrees method of tightening. They rarely break unless over tightened, or been left on far too long.

Inless of course, this was a job lot of belts Guzzi got from the back streets of Taiwan.

Anyone know what the size of the belt is? Got to be available from more than one source.

last words on his post "the bike has 11k on it". Not a lot I would think.

Jim, is that considered a "wear and tear" item at your dealer, or will warranty cover it?
