Being newly interested in the flat tappets in my Griso SE, I sent a query to Amsoil asking the ZDDP content of their Synthetic SAE 60. The Amsoil tech asked for a copy of my owners manual which I sent electronically. Here is the response:
"Jim-
Thank you for everything you provided to us, At this time MASOIL does not have a product we would recommend using in that Moto Guzzi. We are looking into this so please keep checking in with us."
Motul 7100 was used by Riders' Hill at the first service and I have a jug ready for the next change. Information is hard to find but it looks like Motul 7100 has between 900 and 1050 ppm of ZDDP depending who you read. Interestingly, the label touts that it has reduced ZDDP for catalytic converter bikes. Good for cats but bad for flat tappets.
I will be adding a ZDDP supplement.
My warranty is up next month so I asked Riders' Hill what would happen if the tappets crashed and they verified that Guzzi would supply parts and I would have to pay labor. I'm good with that.
Bottom line is that I think with a little ZDDP help I won't be worrying too much. It's not like flat tappets are rocket science, the bike runs great and I've been rolling Desmodromically for the last ten years with rubber belts and half rings and rocker flakes, etc etc. This is no biggie.
