I was caught in a nasty rain storm on my '14 V7S this weekend. First my running tail light went, then after I got home (thankfully) my brake light burned out. I decided to look at the rear brake light switch down by the pedal, and after sliding the rubber boot off some water came pouring out. It was soaked inside the boot, and kept shorting and blowing out the 1157 tail light bulb. Seems the narrow end of the boot faces upward, and there's some room for water to fill the thing up. After cleaning and drying out the switch wires, I replaced the boot and applied some "liquid electrical tape" to the narrow end of the boot so it won't happen again. I suppose some silicon or a tightened wire tie would also do the trick.

Brake Switch Boot

Yes, a good tip.
I wonder why the 'running tail light' bulb blew as well?
Maybe there is place water can enter in the common earth to those 2 x bulbs.
If the switch was shorting out is there not a fuse that should blow?

Not exactly sure. It is a single, dual filament 1157 bulb. Checked the fuses first, all were fine. The brake light hung in there the entire time until I was troubleshooting in the garage and depressed the brake lever before I discovered the water in the boot.

I'll check out that boot. Last year I rode through some heavy rain and never did have an issue while on a 3,700 mile trip.
