Anyone Have Their Tank Off? Need your help ...

So in my failure/stupidity to secure the gas tank when I lifted it off to do the moaning whale fix it fell off the bike, broke the fuel pump connector where it connects to the underside of the tank and also pulled the 2 pins from the fuel pump connector.

I can order a new fuel line but the pump connector's 2 pins are each a different colour than what the service guide refers to so I'm not sure which colour goes into which hole in the connector for me to put it back together.

I'm going to attempt to post pics next but if anyone has their tank off can you please give the order of the wire colours? There are 2 blanks in the connector and then the 2 wires, which are black & red. I'll need to know if it's blank-blank-red-black OR blank-blank-black-red.

Thanks in advance.

If all else fails, I'd try a temporary hookup. Assuming it's just connecting to the pump, then the polarity will just probably determine which way the pump motor revolves. One direction will bring the pressure up to where it stops pumping, the other running in reverse will never get up to pressure.

My $0.02¢.

I suppose I could see if I can try and have the fuel line pump into a container to verify ... I've got a 50/50 chance of being correct. The service manual refers to the blue (which my bike doesn't have) as being ground. I could assume that the black on my bike is the ground as an educated guess.

Thanks a ton Touringman. The service manual shows the ground on the inside so black is indeed the ground as expected.
