Recent repairs called for removing tank and air box so I took the opportunity to check the air filter. Inside I found several large, thin, black flakes which I found were coming from the underside of the fuel tank. The material was the outer layer of the insulation. So much of it was already hanging loose I peeled off what was left. That leaves only the foam layer adhered to the bottom of the tank.
Is it worth trying to remove the foam layer, which I imagine would be tedious, and replacing with a new insulation pad? Perhaps there's better material than the OEM stuff to use which can be cut to size also.
