I've been working on getting my 2006 Breva 1100 in good running condition, largely with remote help from scottmastrocinque. I was able to get some other ECU and dashboard errors cleared, but the only one that remains is an ECU code 13. Looking in the service manual shows the following:

As you can see, code 13 is missing. I already checked out GTM's thread on all codes, and even there it's basically a guess that it's related to a temperature sensor. I've already replaced the engine temperature sensor, I know the dashboard air temp sensor is good because the ambient temp in the dashboard LCD is correct. Only temperature sensor left is the airbox temp sensor. What makes me believe these aren't really the issue is each of these sensors have their own specific codes which my bike isn't showing any errors for. Bike runs fine and doesn't exhibit any issues so whatever sensor the ECU believes has failed, is being substituted with a default value.

I have tried doing the 1-hour ground reset. If I clear the code, it comes back immediately upon re-checking the codes without doing a key cycle. I've also done the service reset in the diagnostic menu, the service light remains.

Has anyone successfully troubleshot an ECU code 13? I'd bring the bike to the dealer so it can be connected to a Socio-300, but there aren't any MG service dealers in my area.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

There is a dealer in Charlotte. Try calling them and see if they can identify the code. If so please let us know what the code refers to.

A Socio-300 is a independent computer system from Italy that I own here in my shop.

Moto Guzzi dealers use the PADS (Piaggio Advanced Diagnostic System)

I don't believe that 013 is temperature related. It is fueling related. I thought you determined it was the barometric sensor in the dash and you replaced it. (This would make total sense with Moto Guzzi leaving it out of the service manual list as the dash is not considered a serviceable item). Also, on other marques, i.e. Yamaha, and Kawasaki, this is the code for the inlet air pressure/temperature sensor, which you determined is indeed on the dashboard. Perhaps your replacement failed or the soldering more than likely. That is what I would check first.

I'm guess I'm confused here as I thought you resolved this in our conversations together.

FWIW:

The codes follow the SAE Standards which are indicated by the first digit:

  • 0 , 1 and 2: for the air/fuel mixture
  • 3 : for the ignition system
  • 4 : for checking auxiliary emissions
  • 5 : for engine idling
  • 6 : for the onboard computer and ancillary outputs
  • 7, 8 and 9: for the transmission (gearbox)

Silly question probably, but after your various work on the bike you did plug the temperature sensor back in?
I left this un plugged one of the first times I delved under the tank which caused me some consternation
