Hi all:
I am looked at a used 2008 Breva 750 with 3500 miles on it. It is leaking oil from the right side head gasket. There is no evidence of hot gas blow by, just oil. Having read a couple of old threads on here, it sounds like it is coming up from the studs that hold the heads/cylinders in place. How big a job is it to tear down the engine and fix this? Or should I walk away from the bike all together, and look for another?

All input and advice is appreciated.

Keith

The engine is pretty simple. I haven't done the job on one of the new 750s, but I have done this task on V50s. Pretty easy to do. I would keep the cost of doing the job in mind when negotiating the price of the bike. If you are uncomfortable doing the job yourself, a dealer should be able to do it for less than 2 hours labor plus parts.

It could also be as simple as replacing a torn or misaligned head gasket..... which is all I had to do on my B750 to stop some recent oil leaking from the left head.

Guzzis are pretty simple beasts....if you have minimum tooling and knowledge you can do it....get the shop manual on ebay you will see its easy.....

Do you mean head gasket or rocker cover gasket? Rocker cover gasket? Five minutes. Head gasket? Couple of hours max, if you're blind, working in the dark and have an IQ of less than 50. :D

Oil leak or oil seepage ? I had a seepage issue on my V7C since it was new even after re torquing the heads. By seepage I mean a bit of oil on the first cylinder fin below where the cylinder head mates to the jug. Just a smearing and the bike never marked it's territory on the garage floor.
I figured that one day I would get around to replacing the head gasket, As it annoyed me more then I considered it a "problem". I was told by a very competent Guzzi mechanic while having some work done on my Griso who works in one of the very few (unfortunately) good dealers in the US after describing the symptoms to try re torqueing the heads again but torque the 4 10MM bolts to 35 ft lbs and the 8MM bolt to about 25ft Lbs. It worked for me. I am not advocating that anyone try this just relaying what worked for me.
