Hi, At 140km/h my Breva 750’s starts a sort of a mini “tank slap”. The handle bars start to vibrate violently. I have sopped the front tire and double checked the balancing. Due to the swaying of the front wheel the front tire starts to wear unevenly. The bike has 30,000 km/s on the clock. Any ideas? :S

Have you checked both the front wheel & steering stem bearings?

You've done WHAT to the front tire? :?:

Sorry, me dumb forriner. :side:

I've noticed shimmy mainly from worn Lasertech front tires. It will disappear changing to a new and better tire, IME.
Go for a Pirelli Sport Demon or a Michelin Activ.

First a welcome to (I think) our first South African Guzzista!
As Holt says above, tires are usually the main issue. Can't hurt to check the head & swing-arm pivot/bearings as well, and also from my experience having the suspension properly set/dialed is also extremely important.

I've heard that increasing front tire inflation can dimish tank slap. That's an easy fix. Also change the front tire and/or the suspension settings. Sometimes a handlebar fairing can cause tank slap too.

Let us know what you find out.

Joe

I had wobble issues with my breva, soon after it ate one of the steering head bearings. The mechanic who replaced them told me they should be checked/adjusted every couple of years and mine were as loose as he had seen.

Hi, I found the steering head bearing adjusting nut loose. In fact I could finger tighten it. I disassembled the top and could find no worn items. In any case I reassembled and tightened up the whole assembly. I will test the effectiveness of this fix in the morning. Thanks to all who commented in respect of this issue. In South Africa, Moto Guzzi’ s are not popular. In fact we don’t even have a dealer in the country. I have 5 other bikes, but the Guzzi is my favorite. I have ridden it for 5 years and 37000km/s. I have picked up a few issues that need to be addressed and have found help for most of them in this forum. They are 1) Noise from the box in 5th . 2) EFI light comes on intermittently. 3) The headers have a doubled wall pipe system. The inner pipe comes lose and rattles, mainly on idle. I will update all on the stability of the bike tomorrow. Once again thanks. Dion :)
