Hello forum, it has been quite a while since I was active here, first as an owner of new 2012 Stelvio and later as potential buyer of another Stelvio, that time a used 2009.
While I have now a midsize ADV bike, I am looking for a second bike, more street oriented. I have an opportunity to buy a 2007 Breva 1100 with 27k kms on the clock. I really like the bike, researched it on the web as much as I could, and the price is right.
Problem is that bike is 400 kms away from my place, I am planning to go there and look it, but at the same time I do not want to waste my time just to find out that bike is below my standards. I have exchanged few emails and I have few pictures of the bike, looks good but you never know unless you see it up close.
I am planning to have a thorough “investigative” phone call with the guy, so I wonder if you could advice me what questions to ask. I can certainly inquire about dents, scratches, rust spots, oil leaks, and general condition of the bike. Are there any specific questions to ask to cover specific weak points of this bike? I have downloaded operators manual and maintenance schedule, and there are items Iike replacing fuel and brake line every 4 years…?
Thanks and cheers,
Lumir

Does it suffer from moisture in the display - was it ever changed. Service history (confirm the weights of oils used). Have the valves been checked/set at recommended intervals. Has the fuel filter been changed to all metal. is it a daily commuter on a short run not allowing the engine to get up to temperature or was it used for highway touring (a good long run to get oil up to temperature and burn out any moisture that may accumulate). Does it suffer from the occassional click start (startus interuptus) - has it been resolved. battery age.

Research "sacred screw"
Idle control valve can be temperamental
Make sure it has both keys so that you can set the security code to something you can remember
The speed sensor on mine got water in it and caused all sorts of fun and games, plus a ride home in a truck...
not a common fault
Clocks can be a problem

If I had longer legs and could handle the weight easier I'd still have my old 2005 bike.
With the throttle bodies balanced well they can be turbine smooth IMO
A great bike
