C14 Muffler - Cat removal

Finished my exhaust a couple weeks ago and figured I should show a pic of the completed work. I removed the front tube, decreased back pressure by cutting three 1 1/2 " holes in the center baffle exposing the exhaust gas to the full volume of the muffler, (also giving a nice deep growl). For finishing touches I cut and contoured the chrome plated stainless heat shields to match like stock, blacked out the end plates and fitted some diamond mesh. The huge long exhausts of the custom are elegant looking, but I prefer the short sportier look.

I just removed the mufflers on my 2017 California Tour to make it easier to get the rear wheel off to check the wheel splines. When I looked into the front end of the muffler, the catalyst appears to be right there. Can’t I just drill out the catalyst and dump it out the muffler intake?

A bit messy, but yes you can. We used to do that with our cars back in the day. Just don't breathe the dust, its TOXIC ceramic heavy metals. If you cut the reducer pipe off right at the weld, and use a slide hammer or equivalent, it will come right out. Index before you cut.

Get some black heat paint and black out the rear of the mufflers. I did it and it looks great.
