The machined bore for the carrier support bearing in the swing arm of my 850T is 0.07 to 0,15mm under size! As you can imagine the bearing was very tight to turn and the universal yoke nose is also 0.04 under. I will true bore and machine the other end of the universal to repair but was thinking of also fitting a C3 bearing (extra clearance). Any thoughts ?
 
You want a snug fit of the velocity joint into the carrier bearing. You want the bearing to turn, not the joint spinning in the bearing. Also you want the fit of the carrier bearing into the swing arm to be a press fit, not slip fit. I would think the swing arm hole should be about 0.03 to 0.05mm less than the diameter of the bearing. If the velocity joint is good, you may want to knurl the end that goes into the carrier so it is a slight interference fit.
 
The extra clearance is between the races and the balls. This is not a location that you want moving around. I'd stay with the original class of bearing. I'd use a class 1 myself it not purchasing the part from Guzzi.
