centerstand experience on 1200 Sport

I know it has been discussed previously but I would like to give my feedback. My wife and I went for our first ride with the centerstand and a new set of Pilot Road 2's. I'm not a youngster and don't fancy myself as a fast guy so I was pretty shocked when the stand met the pavement. Luckily I was trying to ease into the new tires so it did not cause any big problem, there is 3/8" of virgin rubber on the left side of the bike.

Just a warning so anyone who mounts one knows what to expect, a more exuberant ride might very well have resulted in the back wheel being pried from the pavement just like a 70 Triumph ride I took long ago.

The stand works great for maintenance but it is coming off before any more rides.
 
First thing, cut most of the rubber stopper away. You only need 1/4 inch or 5mm or so of stopper. This allows the center stand to get up out of the way. Also when two up, you need more rear spring preload. After doing this on by 1100 Breva (same stand I believe) no touch down issues, and no chicken stripe.
 
Do not know the differences between the B11, S12, and N12 suspensions, but the Norge suspension issue, at least, has been pretty well beat to death here and elsewhere. See, e.g., https://www.guzzitech.com/forum/topic. ... ion#p21994.

Until I replaced the rear stock with the HyperPro, I routinely grounded both sides of the centerstand. When I took off the centerstand, I grounded the exhaust. I attribute this to more to my ... erm ... avoirdupois than Rossi-like riding style! The last straw was a momentary pivot with Kathi aboard.

Since I mounted the HyperPro, different (and wonderful) motorcycle.

YMMV, as searches here into the issue will reveal it has for others.

Bill, did you mount the rear HyperPro yourself or did a shop do it? I'm asking because I was told by the shop near you that the swing arm had to be removed to replace the shock. That just doen't sound right to me....

Also, where did you get the shock?

If I decide to keep this thing I'll need to upgrade the suspention after I resolve the fuelling issues. I'm beginning to wonder how nuch more of her Italian charm and character I want to deal with.

I was up your way last weekend and froze my arse off.... hope the weather has improved.

Yeah Bill, where did you get the shock? :pinch:

The swingarm does not have to be removed to replace the shock. Run the preload adjuster in fully, remove the pre-load knob (be sure to catch the indexing ball bearing), and you just need to move the swing-arm up slightly and angle the shock accordingly, and it will literally fall out once all of the lower linkage is unbolted.

My 1200 Sport came sans centre stand, but I sure miss it for some maintenance issues that involve the rear wheel being able to rotate freely.

Can't use my rear wheel stand, as the Sport swinging arm (along with the Breva and the Norge) is single sided, and my front wheel "lock stand" keeps the bike upright but leaves the rear wheel on the ground.

I think I will have to fabricate one that can be quickly installed just for those maintenance requirements. Anyone already done this?
