Cheapo Adjustable Levers

Howdy folks- I just installed some eBay adjustable levers and noticed the new clutch lever does not have sufficient space for a spacer.

I assume this is an issue and I should immediately revert to oem clutch lever with spacer. Is this right or am I overthinking it?

Also- I noticed the oem brake lever did not have any sort of spacer where the bolt secures it. Is this normal?

*I know, I know, you get what you pay for. But help me understand the mechanics at play here and whether the lack of a spacer on either levers is dangerous.

Do you mean the spacer that sits in the lever pivot space that the pivot bolt passes through?

Some levers have pressed-in bushings of a better bearing material than the cast aluminum to bear against the pivot bolt, others have a floating bushing to do the same job, and others are bored to the size of the pivot bolt without additional bushing. The last tend to be the less expensive levers, the former two tend to last a little longer.

yup, I’m referring to the plastic spacer that sits in the lever pivot space on the oem clutch lever. The new cheapo adjustable clutch lever does not have any space for a spacer- the bolt just fits right in. Is this safe?

also, the stock lever did not have any sort of spacer when I removed. Is this normal? It seems to me that the bolt being directly in contact with the aluminum will eventually lead to some sort of failure. I could be way off here..

I will say I have a much easier time finding neutral with the new adjustable levers.
 
Sounds like the new lever has the clutch adjustment more correct than the original. :)

Inexpensive levers without a bronze bushing wear out faster if you don't keep them properly lubricated. The fit of the pivot bolt and the lever gets sloppy faster and the levers need to be renewed more frequently. It's not the end of the world, it's just more maintenance. As long as the lever is not so poorly made that it will break in a pinch, it'll be okay for a good while.
