Checking Norge Oil level

I just changed the oil and filter on my Norge, added 3.5 L, then took it on a 10 mile ride. After the ride I checked the level and I find that it is slightly overfull with the dipstick insert but NOT screwed in. If I screw it in, it is WAY overfull.

I can't remember, should it be checked with the dipstick screwed in or not? Thanks.

Thanks. Thats what I figured since 3.5L overfilled it "not screwed in".
Problem is, I thought I was supposed to check with it screwed in, so I think the oil level was actually below low when I changed it! Hopefully I didn't hurt anything. The oil light never came on (assuming it works  ).

Changed my oil twice on the Norge. First time I overfilled with a 3.5L refill. Second time I checked during the refill to find the bike full prior to 3.5L. Both times the filter was changed with piping hot oil (ask my hand :eek:hmy: ) and plenty of time to drain.

Did you fill the filter with oil before screwing in? If not, did you then check oil before running motor a few secs to fill the filter & then wait a couple minutes after shut down before checking?

Just askin'...

I didn't fill the filter before screwing it on, but I added 3.5L, ran the bike for a minute on the stand and checked the level: slightly overfull when not screwed in. Then I went on a 10 mile ride and checked the level again, still slightly overfull. I checked it again the next morning when cold, still slightly overfull. I don't think the 3.6L in the owners manual is the correct amount. I would guess about 3.3L with filter would be enough to fill it.

Actually, sounds about right. I have the later now standard press in dip stick-which is very easy to use, very nice-& it shows a bit high with the specified amount as well. Course, we're talking the big blocks here, plenty of oil capacity, exact level not all that critical, unlike the small blocks-whole another thing there.
