Cruisin' Guzzisti
So I've been traveling so much in the past 10 weeks, I've had almost no time to ride (though I did take Rosebud [new working name] down to Atlanta & back a few weeks ago...but that's another tale). So today I thought I'd ride up to Keswick Winery near Charlottesville, pick up my wine club shipment, & ride back.
Which I did. Left later than I wanted to, but I took River Road out of Richmond to Route 6 west to Goochland. Stopped at Javajodi's for lunch 7 a coffee--great relaxed place. Also recommend the White Hawk Music Cafe in Goochland on US 522. After lunch, I rode 522 north to US 250 west. Normally I'd continue on 522, since 250 is so straight...but today I thought I'd do something a bit different. I rode up 250 past Zion Crossroads, turned right on Black Cat Road, then right on SR 20 to Keswick.
A gorgeous if cool day...about 54 F at the highest. Still, the Olympia gear, BMW winter gloves, and Guzzi heated grips worked great. Inside the winery, the ladies packed my bottles with care:
I like looking into the barrel room...all that wine, just a'waitin'...
After leaving Keswick, I followed Garmin's directions north on 20 a short distance to Lindsay Road east, which hooked up with SR 22, a nice feeder road over to US 33 at Trevilians, site of a cavalry fracas between George Armstrong Cussedat and Wade Hampton/Fitzhugh Lee/Thomas Rosser (http://www.trevilianstation.org/tour.htm). On to Richmond through Louisa, south on 522 at Cuckoo, then I-64 east to home.
All in all a nice day.
