so I was going over a pass on sunday. I ended up getting behind a crash so I just turned the bike off and waited. when thing got going again it turned the key on, lights came on everything was came on fine, hit the start button and nothing happened. got the bike home in a truck. I've checked the button, it clean, the kill switch is fine, nuetral switch, kick stand switch, and clutch switch are good. I still need to check the relay tonight but if some of you have an idea I'm open to to them

Thanks everyone

Had a similar problem on my Norge, know of same on a friend's Griso, I think he said has happened 2-3 times to him. Appears neutral switch related, but not a bad switch. Neutral light was on, but ECU still apparantly thought bike was not in neutral, so would not allow start. Solved by pressing shift lever to get bike firmly in to first, then shift back to neutral. Bang, started right up, hasn't happened again. On occaision when it happened to me, I had parked bike, then pushed it to a new position, theorize I might have just barely touched gear shift. Hardly scientific-but worked, costs nothing to try.

Also check the two 30 amp fuses, and the holder they are in. I've had an encounter with a bad fuse holder.

I had a problem with the starter button on my Griso. I think it's been solved with a little scraping and dielectric grease. Just in case, I leave the plastic cover off of the starter/solenoid so I can easily go to manual override if necessary. I think it looks better without the cover too.

I had the same problem with my Norge a few months ago. Everything powered up when the key was switched on, but no response from the starter. After much head scratching I discovered a loose/corroded positive battery terminal connection. It was making enough contact to power the dash but not enough to run the starter. I check that connection regularly now and have found it corrodes quickly, especially when ridden in the rain, despite using dielectric grease on it.

How these issues keep recurring!

Normally it's the negative terminal which likes to corrode but on the Guzzi battery it seems the other way around and that's not helped by the terminal being covered from view.

I had that trouble back in 2006 and found that gassing was finding its way past the terminal post where it exits the casing. After cleaning everything thoroughy and coating with Vaselene, I also added a fillet of Vaselene around where the post was leaking. Perfect ever since.

Just a reminder when disconnecting a battery - key off, negative cable off first and on last.

I had a corroded positive terminal. Starter relay clicked, but starter didn't turn and lights dimmed.
