I installed a plug-and-play O2 eliminator unit that I purchased from a forum member. I've done this before on other machines, and am confident I didn't make any installation mistakes. I believe it was one of the Dynojet units, though not certain. Bike started and ran normally for about 10 minutes. Then died suddenly. Lights, engine, everything, like it was axed. Turns out the 30A main fuse blew. Battery voltage appears fine, but when replacing fuse, bike goes through a prolonged startup series of events, sounds like solenoid clicking in the area of the ABS pump. Several seconds later, dash goes through normal light show and appears normal. Pressing the starter gives an audible clunk and the display goes black. Key off, back on, goes through the routine again. No ECU errors recorded, no Dashboard errors recorded. I can set the clock and it will run. On two occasions after removing and replacing the main fuse there was a graphic on the dash display that said ECU and a picture of a "plug unplugged." That showed twice, but not the other times. I assume the ECU is up under the tank, and that if it was truly unplugged either it would show no error information or else throw some or multiple codes(??)

Is this an ugly coincidence, or is it likely that the O2 eliminator fried the ECU?

I removed the O2 eliminator and restored everything to normal before doing the diagnostic codes. There also were no codes before I removed the O2 eliminator.

Hey John,
I used the O2 unit from Todd with no problem. You may want to check the ground connection that you used for it, by the starter, and may want to make sure the connection at the battery terminals is ok (assuming you disturbed it by disconnecting it when you installed the O2 eliminator....)
Good luck
Nick

I'm a little concerned about the ECU disconnected message. The only time I saw that was on a bike with a bad ground at the ECU that fried the unit. Since it isn't persistent I'm hoping that what Nick suggested will take care of your issue. Also see the post on the positive terminal sulphating (forming lead sulphate) which will give you some of the symptoms you describe.
