dipsticks, old vs. new

There's a bit of a discussion going on the French forum concerning how to use the new dipstick (the one that goes with the hole in the Norge and Stelvio fairings). Apparently, when checking with the stick pushed all the way in (as when it's not in use) just after filling the sump with the prescribed amount of oil, one reads a level that's above max. However, with the official method (stick not pushed in), one reads a level somewhere between the min and max levels on the stick.

The question has thus arisen whether the manual was updated ... and whether or not the stick's business has been been re-designed/calibrated at all.

No one seems to know how the situation is with the old, screw-in dipstick, however. I wouldn't be amazed at all if one would also find a level between the acceptable extremes...

Any thoughts? Does the amount of oil Guzzi tells to feed into the carter correspond to the maximum level? I'd be surprised, in fact!
 
My old loopframe manual says to check the oil level with the dipstick "fully screwed up".

Well, having both the old screw in one and a new push in one for the Norge, I have just compared the lengths.
From the top flange, (where the top O ring is on the screw in one) to the marks is identical on both. So maybe a bit of a Guzzi cock up here, as the new push in one has the screw in holder raising it by about 6mm or 1/4 inch maybe a little less.
As the instructions on the new bikes clearly says do not screw in, I don't know how that transfers to the push in variety.
I have seen no instruction for the push in type. I would assume with this later one that you would push it all the way in to get a level, as you would on all other make engines with dip sticks. If you do this then the oil level will be a little lower in the sump if filled to the top mark compared to the screw in one not screwed in, if you see what I mean. :?
 
I'm pleased to see I was not the only one puzzled by my owner's manual which said not to "screw the dipstick in" when my Stelvio clearly has a push-in dipstick. I made the assumption that it is intended to be pushed all the way in for an accurate reading, but that was just a guess on my part. :?
