When I purchased my '06 Breva in 2009 I received one key and no user code. I was unaware of the existence of an immobilizer and the need to have either two keys, or one key and the user access code, in order to be able to duplicate keys or reprogram the ECU. The bike was a trade-in at a Kawasaki dealer and they hadn't gotten this info from the original owner. I've given up trying to trace down the previous owner after an extensive internet & telephone search.
I recently purchased a new take-off instrument panel to replace the faulty panel on the Breva, but not knowing the secret user code prevents me from mounting the new panel permanently. Currently I can get the new panel to work by:
1. turning on the key
2. entering the code "00000" when prompted
3. the instrument panel is now initialized and working, but a message comes up, "Now enter the user code"
It will work without the user code, but the "Service" light remains on, and the next time I start the bike I must go through the sequence of steps listed in the previous paragraph. Nice as an anti-theft device, but a pain for every day riding. I think this issue could be solved by simply disabling the immobilizer, but is there any way to access the on board computer and retrieve the user code?
Does anyone have a workable solution to this problem?
Thanks,
Joe
