I don't mind the cold when I'm riding but I try to avoid the rain. It really is no fun with the fog inside the helmet, and the thorough clean-up of the bike that follows the ride... plus the fact that after reading many comments, it seems that everytime someone here has had problems with his Guzzi, it was after (or during -even worse!) a rainy ride!

That put aside the roads you ride on are just beautiful and remind me of the Auvergne roads I relished last year. But since you are in Corrèze these must be close to home for you.
Just beautiful. You just need to be very careful on the fallen leaves (on your pics taken in the forest) which when wet can feel like Holiday On Ice and I am not even mentioning the fresh snow which fell a couple of days ago almost everywhere in the mountain areas here in France!

The Ski resort is the Sancey Peak 1880m - on MT Dore in the Puy de Dome region of Auvergne France which is about 1.5 hour ride (in those conditions) from us. WonderB if you find yourself in the area again I know a nice Chambre D'hote for Bikers http://www.ridersrest.net

Loads of pictures of riding roads is this region on my photo's pages http://www.whereistonynow.co.uk not that many of the Stelvio as yet but will soon remidy that.

Yep the leaves can be a little tricky but I think that if you ride with confidence and no sudden power surges or sudden turns you can maintain a fair pace, also I think you get used to the conditions.

It did rain most of the way back but not torrential so no problems with the bike.

Ah I thought I'd recognize some of the landscape. I went on that road last year while driving along la chaîne des Puys in Auvergne. Wonderful in any season although I could do without the rain and snow.
I'll keep in mind your recommendation for the Chambre d'hôtes... it's always better to follow people's advice when they do live in the same area!
