I recently have been having trouble with blowing fuses on my 09’ Calvin in the F3=20A slot.

It is intermittent but inevitably the fuse gets blown. The 20 amp F3 slot seems to be powering the driving lights, horn and high beam?
I recently took the bike in and had the wiring looked at after having had a friend look at it pretty closely. Nothing was spotted and everything was fine for a few days.

Then one dark morning I pulled in to get some gas and when I started up the lights and horn and high beams were out.
Slipped in a new 20A fuse and I was good to go.

I checked the connections and everything is tight and solid and the fuse box is perfect? No crimped or bare wires. I have not noticed any rhyme or reason as it happens during varying conditions and different periods of time, but inevitably the fuse blows.

Hoping someone with more electrical knowledge or similar experience can give me a good starting point to resolve the problem.

Since it is intermittent, try and resolve what was operating when the fuse blows. Are you running with the two fog lamps at the front? If so, try running without to see whether your fuse will stay intact. Try the front and rear brake operations to see whether there might be a short circuit there. Same for the horn, direction indicators, and high beam flasher. According to the wiring diagram, all these devices run from this 20A fuse. (Seems to be a lot for one little 20A fuse).

If the fuse fails to blow, try to insert an ammeter in the circuit where the F3 fuse lives, and measure the total current with all devices on. You might want to consider a slightly higher fuse if it is close to 20 amps.

Incidently, I understand that the alternator is incapable of maintaining a battery charge with all the driving (headlight and fog lamps) on continuously. Has this been your experience?

Edit: It appears that the fog lights are not on the same fuse, but run off Fuse F5 instead. Doesn't change the suggested diagnostic technique described.

Per what Dave says above, my recommendation if nothing is glaringly obvious, is to just put in a 25A fuse and call it a day. :S
