Engine oil contamination

I have a 2002 California EV80 whch i have recentley changed the engine oil at 9000 miles,the old oil was contaminated with water and was a coffee-like colour,i put ths down to the bike being stored mainly indoors and condesation forming inside the engine/and the bike not being ridden many times over winter.
Today,a week later and only about 300 miles further the new oil in the engine is heavily contaminated again :angry:
Can anyone suggest a solution thanks.

Try changing your oil more often, say, every 3000 miles B)

The new crud might be "leftover" from what was in there already if you changed the oil cold and didn't get everything out the first time.

What about the oil filter ? When was it changed last ?
 
The 6K change interval is good, but since you have noticed contamination, change it and the filter now. As Muley said, you may not have gotten all the contamination out on your first change. Keep an eye on the condition of the oil. If it seems contaminated again, change it. After a change or two you should have all the contamination out. Just be sure to ride it long enough at a time to get the oil hot.

I only recentley bought the bike with 8300 miles on the clock,the recent oil changes were the first one i did,before that the oil seemed clean so obviously the previous owner had done regular oil changes ,i also did change the filter ,i also did 3 oil changes in quick succsession to clear out any contaminated oil,but the new oil is contaminated quickly,and every ride i do on the bike is long enough to get the oil hot,in the past week my 4 rides have been - 310 mile full day ride,20 miles,20 miles and 10 miles.
Iam now thinking of using flushing oil before refilling the engine again,so i hope this works.
 
Could the head vents or air box drain tubes be clogged up ? Someone might want to comment on this.


Are you riding in cold weather still ? I get moisture in my oil in the winter from short rides. It appears as a milky liquid on the inside of the valve covers. Longer rides purge it out, and there seems to be no problem in hot weather.
 
Your 300+ mile day surely chased out any moisture in the engine (unless it was very cold out). Condensation happens. Just take the bike out once in while and get the engine up to temperature and this will keep most of it out. I wouldn't think that changing the oil constantly is going to be a good solution. And when you do change you oil take a LONG ride before you change it so you know the moisture is gone....

Keep an eye on your oil level and you can see the condition of your oil if there is another problem.
 
As the guzzi is aircooled the only source of condensation is the atmosphere and the only way it can get into the engine in large amounts is through a defective PCV valve/loose hose to the crankcase. I don't know how Guzzi do their modern breathers but the tonti ones where backwards - the pcv valve was before the oil/air separator instead of after.

Other than that small amounts of water can enter just through normal operation - changing the oil and getting the oil hot is all you can do. Some oils are better than others in not mayonaising but not by much - changing the oil frequently is the best plan.

To add to the condensation theory.

Have you checked the compression? Water is a byproduct of combustion. If the rings aren't sealing properly then it may be getting into the oil via blow by.

Just a thought.
