Hi guys,

I have a leak at the header/cylinder on my B11 right cylinder - I can see soot on the cylinder. it's been like that a while and I never gave it much thought, but I'm doing a pretty major refurbishment and I'd like to sort it. I have the new gaskets/donuts but... how do I get the old ones out?? they are really really stuck! a bit of pick work isn't getting me there.

any tricks/hints for this?

I find the edge of old one & use a razor knife to clean out the ridge to open up w/a screw driver or scraper blade. Then a brass brush to clean out the mess.
If you can't find the edge, clean it up w/brush & carb cleaner.

Appreciate your post on this here, as this is precisely why people that want to fix a running issue with the fuel map, is futile. Thanks for listening and checking everything before we both wasted a ton of time. ;)

every time I've had an issue, you and this forum had precisely the answer - if I only read it and did it.

That is a nice tool, but I find it easy enough to just use a tool I already have. A cotter pin puller. The tip is 90 degrees to the shaft and the tip is small enough to pry up the exhaust gasket.
 
I got em off - the left one fought me pretty hard, but a little pick tool like the one linked above worked in the end :)
 
@tobinh where did you get the new gaskets, buying the oem part is not cheap.

I don't see anything from Todd and mgcycle has the header crossover at 17usd and the silencer crossover at 30

I'm wanting to replace both headers and the silencer gaskets on two brevas ( 6 pieces total )

edit: rereading the thread I see I'm talking about different gaskets than OP, I'll start a new thread or just buy what I see available. thanks all :)

top of the page :) not everything is on the store site, but Todd has always been lovely when I've emailed him at the 'sales' email addy there asking about OEM parts.

I think you're talking about different gaskets than I was in this thread, though.
 
Todd is strait south of you, might be easier. At MG that stuff is on page w/headers/clamps.
Tobinh gave you the rest.

I used a Kawasaki part that was cheap for the header to Xover & muffler, I think it's here if you search around, might have been 10 or more yrs ago.
