Help needed.... just had my forks re-chromed and ground on my California Vintage. However the re furbished stanchions will not fit into the lower leg bushes. I know the nominal size of the forks are 45 mm but does anyone have an actual measurement for the diameter of the stanchion to within 0.01 mm ?

Can't believe re-chroming and grinding was cheaper than new fork tubes. I suggest you check with a local dealer for dimension. BTW, new fork tubes are about $150 USD.

I just measured mine w/caliper on an EV (same) 44.80mm-44.83mm. This info should be in the 1st manual for those forks. Should be the same for Cali Classic or late.
This is the fork tube, not leg.

Many thanks for your replies. Just for info the stanchions in the UK are about twice the cost as in the US and absolutely eye watering if you buy OEM units. My stanchions are measuring at 44.93 which shows they are well above the size measured by V700Steve. The additional 2 to 3 would I believe provide the fit required as the stanchion will start to engage with the bush but is VERY tight. Anyway they can now go back to the platers to be chromed and ground again to the correct size! Cheers Don

Today on the used part of tube it measured 44.75 mm, it has 63K mi on it, been apart once for seals @ 10K
mi.
I would go to dealer & measure one

Forking By Frank in IL, USA has them. You have to call. They have the info.
