Gas Mileage VS TPS setting

Question of the day what effect on MPG will a TPS setting of 5.0 versus a normal setting of 4.7 have on mileage and whether the bike will be running richer or leaner ?

My Griso has been getting a MPG's in the low 30's and have been told by trialing riders that it smelled a little rich but no black smoke is ever emitted. Bike runs as good as ever but found the TPS setting at 5.0 via VDTS. I have the suspicion that the last time I did the TB balance I did not check the TPS setting after balancing the high speed adjustment screw. At that time I also put on a Mistral can with the baffle left in. Their is no popping on trailing throttle even if I try and induce it. If anything I would have thought that a freer flow exhaust would have leaned it out a bit. Air filter and box is untouched. So going back to the TPS setting would that be the reason.

I do not mind the gas mileage as a richer exhaust means a cooler running motor.

Hi Draidt
On my Breva 1100 i have set my TPS from 4.7to 6.7 and I get 5.1Lit/100Km, I havent noticed a change in fuel consumption. I have no popping and the engine definitely runs a lot cooler. I posted a while ago how i set it, I hasten to add it was not my idea. The only difference I notice is starting from cold , the tick over is a little low at 900-1000RPM for about 1 min untill the engine warms up a little , i just hold the throttle open a little then it settles down at 1100RPM and runs fine,
cheers Kevin

A higher than normal TPS setting will give a richer setting, all other things being equal. Consumption in the low 30 mpg sounds a little excessive to me, but could be due to several reasons.

1. Faulty or isolated temperature sensor on the RH jug.
2. Binding brakes
3. Excessive use of throttle.

I've never ridden in Florida (got close last year when I rode from Tybee Beach, Savannah in Georgia to Marina Del Rey in California), but I understand that you don't have any hills, Dan. Surely you should be getting better mileage than this.
