Hi, I have a 2001 Jackal with 19000 miles. The tank has a small leak from underneath. Has anyone experienced this and would JB Weld be a good enough solution?
Thanks, Ed

Hi Ed, where's "underneath?" If it's a simple hole, JB weld might do it, otherwise it would have to be welded. I see you're in SoCal... where-abouts?

It's essential to know the location and cause of the leak. If it appears to be a rust-through caused by some water drops in the tank, you can use a product called "Kreem" which I have used successfully to repair old fibreglas and steel tanks with leaks. Kreem is a good product and not difficult to use. Check the Net for sources and instructions. Kreem seals from the inside, unlike welding and J-B Weld and welding/brazing won't do your tank paint any good.

To protect against water accumulation in fuel tanks, especially in cold, damp climates, I recommend an annual treatment of water dispersant sold in any auto parts stores. I remove the tank every couple of years, drain it and dry it in the sun. Then replace with fresh gas. A rust through is really a bummer. Best to avoid it.

JB weld may hold for awhile, but eventually it will leak again. Best to repair the hole (weld or solder) and as suggested, seal the inside of the tank. Many radiator shops will do gas tank repairs.
