Gearbox oil spitting out of the breather is a well known issue with small blocks, and I thought the newer style breather was meant to overcome this.
When I changed the gearbox oil a few months ago, I put in the regulation 1litre plus a bit, and watched it closely. No sign of any leakage or spillage - all good.
Now, 6000km later, I returned from work last night and found the RH footrest bracket and muffler coated with oil and a puddle around the breather in the usual area.
With the newer type breather, what could cause it to suddenly spill like that? I haven't altered the level or done anything out of the ordinary. My journey to work and back is routine. Is there something in the newer breather to look out for and fix, or should I just replace it with the older type fitting with the long loop of hose like the fix for the older type?
