GMG 2022: 7th to 11th September.

Thanks Chris the program of events and notice of the ride are really useful. Wife has changed her mind and my mate has finally got the operation on his knee he's been waiting 5 years for so I've got a nice big room to myself in Valmadrera. I couldn't take much time off so will just boot it down there through France & Switzerland, I'll pay for the Swiss motorway pass which means two days ride of about 6 - 7 hours with fuel stops, leave on Thursday back on Tuesday.

Ray, glad that you're able to make the trip. In Mandello, look out for a pearly blue Breva 750 and a red/white V85TT with British plates!

Arrived lecco today, unfortunately not on the eldorado but at least I'm here for the Centenary celebrations.

We had it all planned to take the Eldorado1400 but a heart attack in February meant a change of plans, we have managed to get a great apartment in the centre if lecco and it will be easy travelling to the Centenary celebrations at mandello

After waiting an 1/2 an hour for the gottard tunnel to open a couple of lads from Belgium (cali & V7) IMG 20220909 171254026 HDR and I went over the top, it added 1 1/2 hours to the trip but worth it, fantastic views and roads. They were still queing when I reached the other side Sitting here in Valdemera next to Como thinking about breakfast. MdL is a right laugh, loads of every sort of Guzzi and a great atmosphere. V10 running well even if the topbox has buggered up the handling, necessary evil. Back to MdL later, I'm the one i IMG 20220909 174059121 IMG 20220909 173623882 HDR IMG 20220909 171534834 HDR n the Guzzitech t shirt! IMG 20220909 185340389 HDR

Riding into MdL from Lecco people by the side of the road were cheering, a sea of guzzis! Eventually I found a space to park and when I was putting my lid away someone shook my hand and said how sorry they were about The Queen, quite an emotional day for an old cynic. Been in the q for the museum about 20 mins now.

We returned home this morning after a brilliant 2-week European tour. Covering a total of 2,170 miles, in mostly warm and dry weather, both Jane's Breva 750 (now showing 144,561 miles) and my V85TT ran faultlessly.

We met Ron (Meldrew) twice while in the area but didn't spot or meet Ray from London.

During the tour I took a total of 309 pictures and 10 videos. Here's a small selection from Mandello on Saturday 10th September. We managed to see the V100 Mandello (albeit from a distance) for the first time. We look forwards to when they're available for test rides in the UK.

After the hustle and bustle of Saturday in Mandello del Lario, which was the busiest we've ever seen the town in 10 visits, we went for a tour on Sunday 11th of the Valsassina (a valley in the Alps of Lombardy) on the SP65. This road is classed as a 'Scenic Route' and it isn't hard to see why. Conveniently for us it runs through the village of Esino Lario where our apartment was located.

In the valley is the town of Primaluna where the Bianco Hotel is located. Prior to setting off on our tour we’d read about an exposition of vintage Guzzi motorcycles to coincide with the GMG 2022 at this hotel. What a pleasant surprise when we arrived, stunning vintage Guzzis dating from 1924 were on display in a typically beautiful Italian setting.

Jani, the owner of the hotel, is a member of the local motorcycle club, Primaluna Moto D’Epoca and owns an ex-police V50. He made us very welcome and provided excellent hospitality. Lunch was exceptional and his staff couldn’t do enough for us.

In addition to the vintage Guzzis on display was a 1974 Le Mans Mk1 based endurance racer. This machine won the Italian endurance championship in 2020. It bears a few racing battle scars and looks well used.

Hopefully the pictures below give a flavour of that unexpectedly memorable day.

I'll certainly go back to the lakes and probably MdL, the atmosphere, the weather and just the good feeling I got made it a great weekend. The bike stated to spit and fart a bit by Saturday and after I got talking to a French bloke on another green V10 he told me Agostini's was open so I went and bought a new set of throttle body rubber clamps, while I was in there the bloke in front bought a set of V10 mirrors, I couldn't believe it, I didn't know they were still available. Sadly they only had one set but told me to get in touch and they'd send me a pair (€80 each), they are made by an Italian firm called FAR but I can't see them listed on their website. The other extra expense for the weekend was the right hand tank badge falling off, they are available @ €130 each! Just changed all the oils & filter, ready for the next ride.
