Hey All; I'm new to the brand and website, so please be patient. I have put money down on an 09 Griso 8V, which I find an intriguing bike ( I test rode and 1100 version, so I have a good feeling about the 8V), but then, as we all do, I started reading online. I ran into several reviews of the new 09 1200 Sport 8V, and it struck my interest. I have a basic understand of the differences of the two, but I wonder if any of you with experience in the Guzzi brand might lend insight to the major differences. I am somewhat committed to the Griso 8V, but I could be swayed... Also, I've been quoted at 13,000 USD plus 600 prep, for a total of $13,600 USD for a new 09 Griso, is that a fair price? Any advice or thoughts is most appreciated.

Hitherto there are no 1200 Sport 8V in the States, and I doubt we will ever see them. I have an 2008 Sport and think it is the perfect vehicle - for my needs. If you are committed to an 8V then you have no option other then the Griso.

My 2c worth.

The Griso has superior suspension and brakes and a morre rigid frame. The only thing that makes the 'Sport' Sportier is the name. Apart from this my guess is that the engine and performance in terms of HP and torque will be well nigh identical between the two. While I haven't checked a spare parts listing for the Sport I know that all of the *important* bits in the 8V in both the Griso and the stelvio are identical, I assume that this will be the same for the Sport. Any differences are more likely to be related to the fuel mapping than anything else.

Being someone who has probably clocked up one of the highest mileages so far on an 8V GrisoI can categorically state that there is nothing 'Un-Sporty' about it and to my mind it is a far more useful tool than the 'Sport which is, essentially, a blinged-up Breva with the 8V motor in. This isn't to denigrate the Breva, it is simply important to understand that it was not designed as a 'Sports' bike and while the Griso wasn't either in the traditional sense its superior frame and running gear mean it is more capable when being pushed hard than a Breva based machine. That having been said it is still a large, very long wheelbase, heavy piece of kit and doesn't really fit anybody's definition of a 'sportsbike'. It is though a superb, fast, road bike. It's geared for 230KPH at redline and will just about pull it in stock trim, with some decent map modification, and a less restrictive intake and exhaust getting it to that point will be a lot more rapid. Having said that I'm after more at the bottom end and through the lower gears than outright top end. It'll loft the front in 3rd with a bit of encouragement though and that is on mine with few mods and a great bloater of a pilot:lol:

I'll throw in my 2 yen.

I'm a (satisfied) Griso 8v owner but had the use of 2008 Sport for a very full day ride into the mountains and beyond recently. All I can say is it is a very different ride, and I would say definitely less sporty than the Griso. It "felt" considerably heavier and bulkier. On the positive side, it might be a better option if your riding double. Take a test ride before taking your deposit off of the Griso. Even though I enjoyed the one day on another Guzzi while mine was being serviced, I was happy to switch back.

Thanks for the helpful information, I couldn't find a 2009 Sport in the US literature or by online searches, so I suspected it might not be available in the US and you have confirmed this. At this point I'll move forward with the Griso 8V, is the 13,600 USD price (minus tax, tags) in the ballpark, or are pricing discussions difficult because of regional variations, market areas and availability, etc?

I've seen it in Minnesota for 14000+

Seems as you are in the ballpark. My '06 was on the floor for 14 when I bought it

Enjoy the ride!

My Griso 8V has done almost 20k and I like it:) It will happily do long all day rides and has very sexy lines. Lovers fast sweepers and for the way I ride it holds a better line thru corners that my Sprint ST does through the same corner... it leans so easily and has ample torque and power to keep you amused:p

However keeping those lines whilst increasing the fuel tank capacity beyond 16L would be nice but not a deal breaker....
