Griso clutch question.

Does the clutch fluid increase in the reservoir as the clutch wears? If one was to never change fluid for example, and after many a thousands of miles use. If it was overfilled to begin with, could it cause clutch plate damage similar to the older BMW clutches?
 
As the clutch wears the fluid level drops as it takes up the space in the slave cylinder, clutch lever travel remains the same.


Actually it looks like just the opposite. As the friction plate, or plates wear, the pressure plate gets closer to the slave. That would push fluid back up into the reservoir.
 
Thanks John. That's what I was thinking originally. That certainly helps one understand how the clutch plate is actuated during use. My thoughts are on clutch replacement in the near future being at 70,000 miles nearly. The more knowledge acquired on subject the better.

Just try changing the fluid regularly. Scott M has a wonderful description how to do it, and it is so easy on the Griso. The clutch on the Griso is a pretty bulletproof device unless abused but it does seem to dirty up the fluid. (50,000 miles and the clutch is like new)

I bought my Griso with 80K km on the clock. The clutch fluid in the master was very dark (cloudy black), like it was contaminated. Flushed it real well with a check-valve at the other end. No idea what would cause that. With 105K km there is no indication of any issues. I assume there is no easy way to check for wear without disassembly as it hides inside the flywheel
