new to this site so please forgive if i mess up by posting in wrong section or worse.i have an 1100sport carb with the last 13 years.up to now the bike has been great with no major hassle with 40000 miles or maybe a little more.i get tired of changing speedo cables ,now for the bad part, the gearbox has decided to start manufacturing metal filings and make gear selection difficult.my question is what gearbox would fit straight on.i might have access to a cali or a lemon 2 box but do not know if they will fit.a repair of my gearbox is i believe beyond my skill and very few guzzi mechanics here in ireland that i know of anyway.looking forward to your advice on the best way to get a great bike back on the road

Best bet is to swap the internals from one of the other boxes into the Sport case.

The reason why Carb Sports trash their gearboxes has been covered many times before so I won't bother repeating them again. There is nothing particularly difficult in going inside a Guzzi five speed, any competent mechanic or even an eager home servicer can tackle it easily. My and others instructions better than mine on stripping and re-shimming a five speeder are up on Greg Bender's site and those along with some common sense will make it childs play for anyone with half a brain.

Don't be afraid and ask questions if you need to.

Pete

thanks for reply pete.i will try and get my hands on a box asap and follow your advice.just hoping i have that half a brain thats needed :D
