Guzzi V7ii Starting Trouble

Unfortunately since buying my Guzzi V7ii Special (2015) second hand, I've had persistent problems with starting the bike. I now know that if the engine is disabled by using the kick stand it is going to be very difficult to restart, so I never do that. The bikes unforgiving clutch and jerky EFI also cause occasional stalls at take-off if you're not careful, which also results in difficulties restarting. Sometimes when I start it the engine loses power when I apply throttle and other times it just doesn't want to start at all. I'm aware it's a cold-blooded bike and I always give it a minute or 2 to warm up, but I'd say I have trouble starting it around 20% of the time. The bike is in immaculate condition and has full service history. After having initial trouble with starting it I had the full 10,000km service done by a reliable Guzzi specialist, but problems persisted. Any advice?

Pretty disappointed. A modern bike shouldn't be this much trouble. I've had vintage bikes that are more reliable and much smoother to ride. With the terrible shocks and EFI I'm really starting to regret my decision to chose the V7 over a Bonneville or similar

I would do the spark plug boot swap to make sure you are getting the best spark possible. research it here.
the 2015 is a very cold blooded critter. you hit the start button and when it fires just don't touch the throttle for a full 3 minutes. then it should be ready to go. only cure id the computer mod from the store here. tip your hat to the EPA for this one.

I am so happy to have a V7 III, fire it up and in 10 seconds ride off and be on my way. Life is good.
I would go for a new fuel map (Link Here) from Todd, have heard nothing but good things about it. In fact I ordered it myself to smooth out the throttle and get rid of a few flat spots.

+1 With new map.

Sounds like the EPA and all the emission junk is preventing you to start the bike up properly

Providing the clutch/throttle free play are setup correctly already.

Thanks guys, had already booked in a remap this weekend to help with the slow speed throttle, will be very happy if it solves the start reliability issue too

Had a Rexxer remap done this afternoon in Brisbane Australia. Improved power, and hopefully has solved my starting problems. Unfortunately it didn't smooth out the initial surge you get when throttle engages, which can make low speed city driving difficult. Will report back...

I have the well proven solution here; https://www.guzzitech.com/store/product/gt-rx-v7-v9-ecu-re-flash-tool/
Stop wasting time & money on products that don’t work and aren’t scienfically proven with hard data.

Todd's reflash tool certainly is the way to go.

After changing my exhaust the bike didn't run very well. At low speeds it was jerky, at static throttle it was jerky, and there was some MASSIVE popping during decel, which wasn't a bad thing honestly for me, I love the decel popping, but apparently that's an ultra lean condition during decel which basically means ultra high engine temps, which is a no no here where it can get up to 55C.

After Todd's reflash tool, maybe after 2-3 map exchanges, the bike has run perfectly. No jerkiness, no decel popping, and very very smooth power delivery.

I'm pretty sure I needn't say all this since you can find hundreds of reviews of Todd's reflash tool which highly praise it, and they are absolutely right to do so.

Get Todd's reflash tool, do it right the first time, and be happy for eternity.
