hi folks - 1946 guzzino
I am mixing 91 oct fuel with standard 2 stroke motor oil as per the gas caps built in cup- 1 gas cap full per litre of gas. Another expert as said 32-1 - Any good experience out there with ideal mix? Its a fully restored/rebuilt engine.
Thank you

Anytime somebody asks me this question my response is read the oil bottle. Different oils use different mix ratios. Back in 1964 it was all dino oil mixed from 16:1 up to 32:1 but 20:1 seemed to be most common. Measure the amount of oil the gas cap holds and calculate the mix ratio. I run synthetic in my 2-strokes with a recommended mix ratio of 100:1 but I normally use 80:1.

My favorite definition of an expert: Somebody who has guessed right twice.

Wot abbie said - pick your oil and read the tin.

I've had a few smokers: my first serious bike was a 750H2, I competitively raced RD350LC and then moved on to TZ750's for a brief time. I currently have a KX500 which is a hell of a lot of fun.

The one thing I have learned is that most people being of 'the more is better mindset' go way over rich in the mix they choose because they erroneously think that the oil will prevent seizure. What actually happens in a high performance two stroke is that the oil causes detonation which causes the engine to overheat which then causes seizure… I have won quite a few races by just mixing my gas according to recommendations. If you're serious use a detonation sensor and inch up to the leanest mixture possible that doesn't cause detonation (this is dependent on octane, temperature, humidity and load).

As you have a lo-po two stroke plonker just use whatever (el crapo dino oil meant for your hedge trimmer from wallymart is fine - any synthetic is even better) and mix it according to the words. I would love a Guzzino.

What Chris R said, I agree with all of it.
The point he makes on increasing the amount of oil reduces the amount of fuel, therefore the mixture is leaner.
