Hand guards for Norge?

Howdy,

Starting to get a bit cold in the morning again here in Oregon. I have an '07 Norge with the Helibar setup. I know that someone was discussing adding hand guards to the Norge, but I can't seem to find that discussion. I seem to remember that at the time it didn't sound too interesting because the poster said that the hand guards could contact the fairing/windshield on full lock. I am thinking that with the Helibars on, it should clear. The other hurdle is that I have the Throttlemeister installed.

Any thoughts on how I could get hand guards onto this Norge?

Howdy, Michael.

Greg Field posted about that after installing some Caponord (I think) h/g on a Norge.

I also saw them installed on Danr's Norge at the Virginia rally this past June and I put pix of those in my Virginia slide show.

Looked great, but I missed a chance to ask him about the steering-lock concern. I rarely -- but sometimes do -- run to full lock on the move (as opposed to moving it around in the garage while not running), e.g., in tight, try-to-look-way-to-right-or-left-as-they-do-in-the-vids so I don't crash!

Also think that the risers made a (positive) difference.

Maybe Dan or even Greg will see this thread and comment.

Yep that would be me, I have the MI risers on my Norge and yes during parking maneuvers the guards do contact the windshield, NO big deal there is plenty of give as to not be a problem you can also take a dremel to the guards which I do not care to do, I also have the Throttlemiester on my Norge and with a little Imagineering (Greg's Words) it works fine, I did have to call ThrottleMeister and get the longest bolt they supply to make it work.

So any part numbers? It sounds like something I could pursue since I know that the Helibars are farther back than the MI risers having used both.

I have the Stelvio handguards on my Norge with Helibars. If you loosen brackets that attach the brake and clutch reservoirs to the handlebars and rotate them just slightly upward, the handguards will fit and not hit anything turning lock to lock. You wont be able to use the throttlemeister without some type of adapter/modification.

Dan, could you post a photo or provide a bit more detail about how you adapted the Throttlemeister bolts to provide an attachment point for the guards? I recently obtained a set of the guards, and I have the heavy Throttlemeister set-up on my Norge. Thanks!

The Kaoko throttle lock works with the handguards without any modifications. My buddy has the Stelvio NTX prototype, I didn't see it on the Twisted Throttle website but it should be on the market soon.
