Hard Bags for Eldorado 1400

original-36400-2765-img_0360.jpg

The hard bags spoil the lines of the Eldo (IMO)...I would much rather go with softer bags.....the passenger back rest keeps on coming up...I wish they had one which would go straight on the Eldo....I believe this one is an adaptation from the writeup on the Voyager!

Guzzi is insane if anyone is going to buy their dinky leather bags + mounts for two grand for this bike! I think they're shooting themselves in the foot by not selling color matched hard bags from the factory for reasonable prices like Moto International has.

I bought that bike from M I. The bags are installed by use of metal spacers on 3 of 4 mounts, the last mount not requiring the spacers. I was not satisfied with MI's solution after receiving the bike as they left entire support of the bags on the bolts and spacers, effectively eliminating the extra support and vibration dampening provided by the original rubber pucks on the brackets. This I found a simple solution for. Also, MI just omitted the rear support brace between the bag mounts because the Eldo license carrier interferes with it as supplied. I Remember the dreaded "Bassa Bag Sag", had them send me the brace and i easily modified it and the license carrier to put it back in use. MG is reported to be eventually making dedicated hard bag mounts for the Eldo. If you don't want to wait for that "promise" to be fulfilled, just ask and I'll post specifics of my mods here. IMHO, the bags look great on the Eldo. Obviously, YMMV. ;-)

Hi John,
I'm looking to purchase the Touring hard bags for my Eldorado based on the specified mods from the MI site, you mentioned not liking their modified attachment. What modifications did you do to more securely attach the bags?
Thanks!

Hi John, any chance to have some documentation about the specs of your mods? Thanks so much.

I would be very curious to see the mods made by Jon to his "Northwest Edition" Eldo he got from MI. I also bought a "Northwest" but being new to cruiser style bikes I was unaware there might be better ways to mount the bags. Consequently, I have just been using it as it came from MI. I am up to just under 9,000 miles on mine, with the bags having been full of "stuff" most of the time. They seem to be just as secure as when I first got it. They did leak, however. But I fixed that pretty easily by spraying the seam from the inside with a can of Flex Seal. I didn't even need to take them off the bike.
