the little rubber caps that cover the head bolts, are they supposed to melt? Should I remove the two that haven't? Weird as, thought I had an oil leak as it was weeping down the head :?:

Yours melted? Most of mine have fallen off, although I would like to replace them. The one or two I have left are whole and ok.

How did yours get that hot? Looking at your name I'm guessing you are in Australia, which could explain that. Wow, I can't imagine that kind of heat.

Joe

thanks Joe, I spoke to an MG mechanic who tells me the injected models run hotter and the glue melts before the cap falls off, not worth replacing, yes I have 2 still on it :D

I have an injected model as well (V7C). My caps appear to be friction fitted, with no glue. Which is just as well. I like the look of the caps, but if they aren't going to stay then let them go.....!

Hah!
Those grommets are made of self-destructing plastic and are related to the Elusive Shadow.
They will disappear within 1 week of purchase.

Do yourself a favor, and save your money. Don't order new ones.

I had never noticed them before. I was looking as some other post and saw Anders' note about them disappearing so I took a look at mine. I have only 1 left on each side. Maybe I'll move one to the other side so it looks like nothing is missing, since you can't see both sides at the same time anyhow.

I wonder if that will throw off the balance of the bike???? (just kidding)

My dealer is putting in a warranty claim for them   I have the 2 left side ones still there, as the plug wire keeps the one from departing :woohoo:

Yeap, those things were gonners years ago. I'm still sad over their loss.
