I have never had an intercom in the past as I always toured by myself. Upcoming, I have my first touring experience with my wife as a passenger. I have no knowledge about intercoms and the like for helmets. Ideally I would like to buy new helmets with a system already in place as I don't think that our older helmets will have room in them for any type of system.

Thoughts, ideas, guidance?

As always thank you in advance for your time.

I always have added mine. Several Arai's, a few Scorpions and a Bell flip face. No problems on any of them. Make sure the helmet is comfortable if you get pre wired helmets. Otherwise just buy a helmet you like. My Scorpion T-1200 has cutouts that fit the speakers perfectly.
I ran Cardo Scala Rider G2"s and G4"s for the past 5 or 6 years. Prior to that I had a wired system on my PC800 using a Star Com system. Wired is nice in that you don't worry about the batteries but then the batteries only become a worry after a long day, normally over 10 hours, of riding and a lot of talking. I don't use the music option so that may shorten the batteries. Cordless makes it much easier getting on and off the bike.
My brother and I have done 10 and 12 hour days with the Cardos still working. We did have trouble last year after many hours in the rain and three of us conversing. There was suddenly a squealing noise that we could not eliminate by shutting off any one of the units. It went away later, probably after something dried out. This year I switched to the Sena 20's as my brother rides with another guy who switched to this model after he and my brother both had repeated problems with the speakers on their Cardo. I never had the problem but I use a full face setup and they use the boom mic.
The little bit I have used the Sena so far has just been to test it and a couple rides with my GPS. It seems easier to program but more stuff to play with. The sound is better. One feature I have not tested is the Sena is supposed to be compatible with other bluetooth units.
The lady friend and I have used intercoms for years and I highly recommend a set of whatever as it is much more enjoyable to be able to discuss dinner, rest stops, that neat house, etc. One thing I I had to train her on is "Bambi" for deer to look at. Saying "Deer" means look out!
My cell phone is linked to my GPS then my headset. If somebody calls me they all say the same thing. They cannot tell I am on the bike.

Thanks for the insights, I now have a starting point.

I am a fan of the Sena systems, although the Cardos are certainly worthy products as well. Most all of the pre-built helmet systems give up a lot in terms of technical capabilities, ease of use and charging, and other factors when compared to Sena, Cardo and other top tier after-purchase products. I am rather like the Imelda Marcos of helmets - I have a bunch and switch the control modules from one to another. So far, it hasn't taken me more than 30 minutes to install the Sena base kit in any helmet of any design.

I love the Cardo G9...it allows me to communicate within 1.5Ks to my wife on her bike. I use it daily listening to the radio and using it to answer phone calls via voice only. I have had great service from Cardo with a faulty unit during warranty as well as an issue with the replacement out of warranty and they simply replaced the unit. I also have several helmets, each with a mic on the chin piece of the helmet and speakers within the helmet. The system also comes with a boom mic if you need it. Waterproof, thankfully here on the Wet Coast of BC:cool::cool:

Second vote for HBC200. I use it with my passenger (daughter who listens music all day long, hahahaha...)
Good, clear voice, I updated the system with 2 internal mics (hidden) and it works much better.
I'm training my daughter to ride her new bike and we use the same system, good for quite a distance. This way she rides in front and I yell behind on her mistakes;-)

I am a Sena fanboy, have been for years. They work great for me and my wife (she rides her own bike) and good range and clear sound. I also have a Sena SR10 transmitter that I run my radar detector and GPS through so I can hear them also.

Sena for me as well, used it for two years now bike to bike with no problems at all, both my wife and I have used Cardo, which was returned after two or three days and various cheapies.

Anyone use the Uclear boomless mike system?

Been using the Uclear 100 Plus for a year. Very happy with it - have tried several other system (not Scala or Cardio), and I find this unit superior. Boomless mic works great - people say its the clearest they have hear me use with phone calls. I am a solo rider, so i cannot speak about intercomm and bike-to-bike communications.
