So today I'm a bit bored, looking at my V7 thinking, I'll take the fairing off and put it back to standard.
Just felt like a bit of a change.
Anyway, it's all going fine.
Get everything back in place minus the headlamp and indicators, and turn on the ignition to make sure the clocks are plugged in properly.
Check.
Fuel pump primes ok and we're ready.
OK so now I re fit the indicators and the headlamp.
Get my gear ready for a quick spin, turn on the ignition and, nothing.
The clocks spin around, but no "shhhhh" sound from the fuel pump.
Nothing on the starter button (the engine should turn even if the fuel pump is disconnected)
Oh and I also noticed no neutral light, even though it does illuminate briefly when the iginition is turned on.
I can't imagine what the hells happened.
All the fuses are fine, and double checked by fitting new one's.
Engine kill switch fine.
Everythings connected up and I haven't pinched or damaged any wires that I can see.
So what the hell happened
HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP
:(

Are you serious? You tear into it and somehow expect we would even possibly have a clue what you did to miff it up?

Without seeing EXACTLY what you did, step by step, nobody could properly diagnose what you have done.

Turns out there was a bad connection on the neutral sensor on top of the gearbox at the rear of the gearbox.
Totally unrelated to where I was working.
A complete coincidence.

Congrats on finding it! I wish one of us could have been more help but your situation was really one of being totally in the dark!

Job well done!

Enjoy :D

Thinking more about this just now, I've seen other posts where people have not had a neutral light and the bike won't start. Thanks so much for the info, I will file this in my "suggestions" memory!

I'm not surprised it's a common problem.
The neutral sensor protrudes at the rear of the gearbox, and the sensor uses a rather feeble spade connector with a rubber boot.
I "jiggled" it and suddenly the bike came back to life.
So I squeezed the connector to create a tighter connection and sprayed it with WD40.
It's fine now.
Yep.
If you turn on the ignition and get no neutral light or prime to the fuel pump, chances are this is where the problem is.
It's a nightmare to get too.
You need to take out the battery tray to access it, which in turn means taking off the rear mudguard.
